SEIZURE ALERT DOGS
Most are familiar with alert dogs for individuals with eplipsy. However, there are many other conditions that involve seizures.
The first behavior a dog must perform is the alert - this is a warning that something is coming. The purpose is for the handler to get in a safe place and in some cases, medicate immediately. However, seizure alert dogs typically serve other needed tasks depending on the specific type of seizure. Many of these dogs must be proficient at balance, pulling to safety, protecting, calling for help, retrieving meds, and even specific physical positions to cause the intake of breath. These dogs most definately are trained for multiple tasks for a specific individual.
